Christmas and New Year hours

We are open later in the week through December, closed for a fortnight after Boxing Day, and back on 7 January. The December menu goes up on the first as usual.

Posting this early because people have started asking, and because December books up in about a fortnight every year.

Through December we add Tuesdays. From Tuesday 1 December to Wednesday 23 December we are open Tuesday to Saturday for dinner, six until ten, plus the usual Sunday lunch from noon. That is one extra service a week and it is the only change we make to the hours all year.

Christmas week. Last dinner service is Wednesday 23 December. We are closed on the 24th, 25th and 26th, and then closed right through until Wednesday 6 January. The kitchen gets a proper break and so does everyone else. There is no New Year's Eve menu — there never has been.

We reopen Wednesday 7 January, normal hours, with the January menu on the board. It will be a root vegetable and shellfish sort of a month.

The December menu is not a set menu. It goes up on 1 December like any other month, it is the same length, and it costs what it usually costs. If you want a turkey it is not going to be here. There will be a goose dish for two at some point in the middle of the month, cooked over the fire, and that is as festive as we get.

Large tables. We can seat ten on the long table by the window. For December, call rather than email — it is easier to sort in one conversation. The twelve counter seats stay unbookable through the whole month, including the week before Christmas, for anyone who is out on the hill and has not planned anything.
